Attar and Khayyam: Two prominent Iranian poets

Atar Neishaburi and Omar Khayyam Neishaburi are two prominent Iranian poets who lived in the 6th century. Both poets were proficient in various fields such as poetry, philosophy and mysticism, and their works have left a deep impact on Persian literature and Iranian culture.

Attar is known as one of the greatest Iranian mystic poets. She is famous for her mystical masnavis such as “Mujak al-Tir” and “Tezkra Al-Awliya“. Attar’s works are full of wisdom and spirituality and help the readers in the path of self-knowledge and reaching spiritual perfection.

Khayyam is also known as one of the most prominent Iranian poets and thinkers. She is famous for her philosophical quatrains known as Khayamiyat. Khayyam’s quatrains discuss topics such as life, death, love, existence and despair from the world. Khayyam’s poems have been praised for their deep and thought-provoking tone and have been translated into many languages.

Relationship between Attar and Khayyam:

Attar and Khayyam were the same age and lived in the city of Neishabur. Some historical sources indicate that these two poets met and respected each other.

Both poets have dealt with topics such as love, mysticism and philosophy in their works. However, the style and tone of their poems were different. Attar dealt more with mystical and spiritual themes, while Khayyam dealt with philosophical issues and deep reflections on life and death.
